The Grist Mill was built by Jim Rafferty on the west side of the Tub Mill Creek. He built a mill race that drew water from the creek and powered a water wheel. Later the mill was sold to Reese Hammond who built a dam to improve the mill works. Mr. Hammond also built a saw mill on the east side of the creek . The mill was in operation around 1876. Later the mill was sold to Matthew Miller in 1880 and he operated it until the 1920's. The mill was dismantled and the dam removed. The pond served the community by providing recreation for swimming and skating as well as an ice harvest location before the time of refrigeration.
